Account deletion 2011 - March 30, 2011 by Kari Nurmi

LabraNet student accounts will be purged during the summer break. Everything in your profiles, home-folder (also known as the Z: drive), or on the student server will  be gone. The accounts will first be disabled on June 23rd, and deleted some time after.

Anything left on LabraNet workstations will also disappear during the summer.

If there is some compelling reason why your account should be kept intact, get in touch with us.

New accounts will again be generated in the fall based on course enrollment.

Please also notice that \\ghost\Temp will be purged during the summer break.

Active FTP, windows firewall and you - March 10, 2011 by Kari Nurmi

Our migrating from F-Secure to windows firewall broke automagic active ftp, and it’s likely to remain out of order for the foreseeable future. We’ve specifically excepted the WinSCP installed on our workstations to allow active FTP to work with it. Passive ftp continues to work regardless.

Note that WinSCP defaults to passive mode. To go active you need to change the file protocol on the login screen to FTP, tick ‘Advanced options’, and change it under the ‘Connection’ node.

Starting this wednesday (10.11),  LabraNet computers will have both the virtualized and non-virtualized versions present. The virtualized firefox will be expired at the end of next week (19.11), leaving you a bit over a week to migrate your bookmarks and such over to the local version.

The virtualized version will be accessible from all programs\mozilla firefox

Profile woes - October 25, 2010 by Kari Nurmi

During the maintenance performed during week 42, a part of the profile data of certain users became displaced.  No data has been lost, and if you want your profile reverted please log out of any computers you might be logged into and come see us at room D325.

Please note that it is advisable to store data on the Z: drive rather than in the profile itself, as large profiles result in slower login times.
