Welcome to 2014

January 3rd, 2014 by Kari Nurmi

We have rejiggered our roaming profile implementation with the goal of improving performance while you are actually logged in. Consequently, login times will be worse. Your first login under the new regime is going to be exceptionally slow, and is not indicative of future login performance, which is expected to be merely slow.

Some more stuff will now fall under your profile quota, which has been increased slightly to compensate. Many of you will still be over the limit when you first log in. Even if you aren’t, please do have a look under c:\users\<username> and c:\users\<username>\appdata\roaming for things that are not relevant to you anymore. If you like living dangerously, forcing a logoff is also a really good way to get back under quota.

We will be keeping an eye on how the system performs and will make adjustments as necessary.

Firefox 20 broken: workaround

April 5th, 2013 by Kari Nurmi

1) Run ‘C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe -p’ to start the profile manager

2) Create a new profile with whatever name and place it in under your profile folder on the C drive (e.g.  C:\Users\<your username>\ffprofile)

3) Select that profile and select start firefox

This is a regression in Firefox 20.0. We’re waiting for it to be fixed in a future release.

Downtime notice

November 19th, 2012 by Kari Nurmi

Unfortunately for my credibility, we will be having another maintenance downtime today. Services will be shut down starting around 17:00, and will resume during the evening. The downtime is expected to last only an hour or two for the most part, and less essential services should be restored by 20 or 21.

Downtime ending

October 18th, 2012 by Kari Nurmi

Almost all services have been restored, and the rest will be returning tomorrow. There are no further complete downtimes planned as of this posting. Thank you for flying with LabraNet.
